Platinum valued at over Rs 30 lakh seized, one held
Varanasi, Jan 13 (UNI) The police claimed to have busted an international racket of platinum smuggling with the recovery of the metal valued at over Rs 30 lakh from a person arrested from neighbouring Chandauli district today.
Police Superintendent (Chandauli) Pravin Kumar said here that on being tipped off the police arrested one Mohammed Mausood, a native of Kaimur (Bihar) from the VIP gate of Mughalsarai railway station.
Nearly four kg platinum was seized from the possession of the arrested.
Mr Kumar further said the seizure was estimated to be valued at over Rs 30 lakh, but the exact value and the purpose for of smuggling will only be clear after laboratory tests in Hyderabad.
Initial interrogations have revealed that the racket might have its network in countries like Nepal and Saudi Arabia and the arrested person was only working as a middleman. Further investigations were on.
