'Plans for regulation for women workers in Gulf'

Kochi, Jan 13: Union Minister of Overseas Indian Affairs VayalarRavi today said the ministry was considering to put in placeregulations to protect the interests of the women employees in the Gulfcountries.

Speaking at a book release function here, Mr Ravi said theministry was planning to draft a policy whereby the immigration andattestation details of each woman working in any of the Gulf countriesshould be given to the Indian Embassy concerned.

He said there should be a clause in the job agreement that theemployee would be provided leave to visit her native place once in ayear.

The woman employee should also give current details of their work status to the embassy at a fixed period of time, he added.

Mr Ravi said the ministry would also talk with the Union AviationMinistry to reduce the air fares in the gulf sector to make it moreaffordable to the women NRIs.

He said the ministry would talk to authorities concerned in these countries regarding the matter.

Mr Ravi said the minsitry in consultation with the National WomanCommission would take adequate steps to protect the interest of thewomen NRIs.

The Minister said plans were anvil for a welfare fund for the GulfNRIs with the participation of the state governemnts, so that it can bedisbursed to deserving people.

The book '' Pathu Laksham Bhryamarude Shapametta Keralam'' by K MRoy potraying the trails and tribulations of NRI wives in the state wasreleased by the Minister.
