One killed as 175-year-old market collapses

Kolkata, Jan 13 (UNI) A child was killed and 14 people were injured when a portion of the roof of the 175-year-old Chhatubabur Bazar in north Kolkata caved in this evening.

Police said an eight-year-old girl, Shibani Sau, was killed on the spot, while 14 people had been admitted to hospital where the condition of four was stated to be serious.

Fire brigade personnel and police rescued 14 people from under the rubbles with the help of local people.

Search was still on for any other victim trapped inside.

The incident occurred when a portion of the old structure suddenly collapsed trapping several people.

The local people first rushed to the spot to extricate ten people from inside.
