Ujjain, Jan 13 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Public Relations Department (PRD) deputy director Pankaj Mittal has urged the PRD Commissioner to provide him security during the discharge of official duty or accept his resignation.

In a letter to the PRD Commissioner, Mr Mittal, who is posted in Ujjain, pointed out that he was beaten up by Madhya Pradesh Power Development Corporation Dilip Singh Shekhawat and his friends while he was covering the 'Azad Sandesh Yatra' on January 11.

He said now security was not assured while discharging official duty. The PRD officials, who once survived on the mercy of officials of the Indian Civil Service, were being forced to tolerate beating of political leaders.

Mr Mittal said neither he was so tolerant nor he was a slave.

He asked the PRD Commissioner to find solution to safeguard his self-confidence, freedom, security and fundamental rights or accept his resignation. He sought earned leave until a decision was taken.

A copy of the letter was sent to the President, the Prime Minister, the Madhya Pradesh Governor and other senior ministers and officers.

Mr Mittal was allegedly beaten up by 15 BJP workers, including Mr Shekhawat and state Bharatiya Yuva Janta Morcha's Vice-President Rajpal Singh Sisodia. Four BJP workers were arrested after Mr Mittal lodged a police complaint.
