Lakhs expected to take holy dip on Makar Sankranti

Ganga Sagar, Jan 13 (UNI) Amid a massive security umbrella, lakhs of devotees are expected to take a holy dip here on the occasion of Makar Sankranti tomorrow.

Saints, mahants and sadhus from scores of 'akharas' would take a bath in the holy waters, South 24 Parganas District Magistrate Rashmi Sen said today.

She said one pilgrim died of a cardiac arrest, while another was killed in a road accident en route to Ganga Sagar.

Elaborate security arrangements had been made in and around the mela area in view of the apprehension of terrorist attack.

Police were fully equipped to thwart any nefarious design he said adding all entry points of the mela had been tightened as well as suspected visitors were being put to thorough frisking.

A strong vigil is being kept on the anti-social elements.
