Ex-Minister of King's regime arrested
Kathmandu, Jan 13 (UNI) Kamal Thapa, then Home Minister in King Gyanendra's regime, was today arrested and produced before the Parliamentary committee to record his statement on two massacres that took place during the King's rule.
Thapa was arrested by the Metro Police from his house and was taken to the Parliamentary committee to record his statement on the Nagarkot massacre and the Belbari killings in which more than one-and-a-half dozen people were killed by the Army.
The former Minister, however, alleged that he was not asked by the committee to appear before them earlier, he was quoted as saying by reporters at the Parliament premises.
Yesterday, the committee had directed the government to bring Thapa to the committee's meeting at any cost. The committee will make the report on the Nagarkot massacre public after recording Thapa's statement.
A Nepali Army soldier, Basudev Thapa, had killed 12 people in Nagarkot before allegedly killing himself while more than six people were killed by the Army men in Belbari massacre.
