Cold wave conditions intensify in HP

Shimla, Jan 13 (UNI) Piercing cold wave conditions prevailing in Himachal Pradesh intensified today with Kalpa in Kinnaur district of the state recording a night temperature of minus eight degrees, the met office said.

Shimla shivered under zero degree Celsius, while Bhuntar in Kullu district recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.6 degrees, despite dry weather in the state for over a month now.

The met office said day and night temperatures in all the high altitude areas, mid and lowers hills had plummeted due to intense coldwave conditions prevailing in the state.

The minimum temperatures in the higher altitude areas of tribal districts of Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti, Kullu and Chamba were being recorded between minus 15 to minus 25 and local people said severe cold conditions were being experienced after several years.

The night temperature at Shimla plummeted to zero degree Celsius after recording a minimum of one degree Celsius yesterday, while the minimum temperature at Kalpa plummeted to minus eight as compared to minus 6.9 degree Celsius yesterday.

The met office said Sundernagar in Mandi district of the state recorded a night temperature of minus 0.6 degrees as compared to point four degrees recorded yesterday.

Thin layer of clouds were hovering over Shimla and other adjoining areas during the second half of the day after another bright a sunny day today.
