Cattle smuggler shot dead by BSF

Krishnagar, Jan 13 (UNI) The Border Security Force (BSF) jawans shot dead a smuggler and recovered nine cows in the early hours today near Bansberia border in Nadia district.

Police said the 61 Battalion of BSF personnel opened fire on a group of five people and killed one of them when they were trying to cross the border illegally with their cows. The victim was identified as Momin Mondal (32). He was a resident of Bangladesh.

Krishnagar DIG (BSF sector) R K Hajla said due to the tension prevailing in Bangladesh security had been tightened in the district. Police is carrying out further investigation, he added.
