Allahabad, Jan 11 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Government today claimed an increase of 12 cms in Ganga water level at Allahabad in the last three days, following release of water from Narora Dam and canals.

Talking to mediapersons here, Ardh Kumbh Mela nodal officer and Allahabad Commissioner R N Tripathi said the flow of river has increased and the quality of water improved.

''The BOD of water has come down to 3.8 points from 5.0 points.'' He informed 500 cusecs additional water was released from Narora on January 5 and 6 and was expected to reach Allahabad on January 12 or 13, before 'Makar Sankranti' falling on January 14 and first 'Shahi Snan' (royal bathing) on January 15.

Mr Tripathi assured this level would be maintained and the government would provide clean water to saints and devotees on important bathing days at all cost.

He lamented that a wrong message was being given that the water of Ganga at Allahabad was not fit for bathing. ''I appeal people to visit Ardh Kumbh Mela and take a dip in the clean waters of Ganga.'' Meanwhile, the flow of Ganga has increased and the river is looking clean in comparison to the other days. However, the saints are still not satisfied with the quality of the water.
