Two arrested for murder of gold merchant

Thrissur, Jan 11: The police arrested two persons in connection with the alleged murder of a gold merchant near Sathyamangalam in Tamil Nadu a couple of days ago after robbing him of gold ornaments weighing about a kilogram.

The arrested were identifed as Pradeep (25) from Kannambra in Palakkad and Renish Poovathingal from Elanadu.

The deceased was Sidhanath Shinde alias Ganesh Sait (33) from Maharashtra who settled down in Thrissur running a gold refining unit.

Pradeep was the servant of the deceased and Renish driver of the car in which they went to Mysore for selling ornaments. They allegedly murdered Ganesh Sait by strangling him on the way and dumped the body in a forest at Sathayamangalam, police said.

Police brought his body from Sathyamangalam. It would be taken to Sangli in Maharashtra for cremation after post-mortem at the Medical College Hospital here.
