Special incentive package for semiconductor fabrication announced

New Delhi, Jan 11 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today announced a Special Incentive Package Scheme to attract investment for setting up of semiconductor fabrication and other micro and nanotechnology manufacture industries in the country to spur the Information Technology sector.

Announcing this, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters here that the package will "attract investments to set up semiconductor fabrication facilities and other hi-tech industries in India to create an eco system for the development of electronics/Information Technology hardware manufacturing." The Special Incentive Package will be available up to March 31, 2010, he added.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet, presided over by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
