Piercing cold wave conditions continue in HP

Shimla, Jan 11: Piercing cold wave conditions continued in Himachal Pradesh with several places in the state recording sub-zero temperatures during the last 24 hours, the met office said.

Most places in the high altitude areas in tribal districts of Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti, Kullu and Chamba were recording night temperatures between minus 15 and minus 25 degrees Celsius even as several places in the mid and lower hills continued recording below normal night temperatures.

The met office said Kalpa in Kinnuar district recorded a night temperature of minus 4.7 degrees Celsius as against 5.4 degrees Celsius recorded yesterday.

The entire state has been experiencing extreme cold conditions despite dry weather weather for almost a month now and the met office said the dry was likely to continue for another few days.

Bhuntar in Kullu district recorded a night temperature of minus 1.5 degrees, while Sundernagar shivered under minus four degrees C night temperature, it said.

The met office said Shimla town recorded a night temperature of 2.3 degrees C as against 1.3 degrees C recorded yesterday.

Thin clouds hovered over the town and other adjoining areas during the early hours today, but thinned out as the day progressed.

The met office said the night temperatures in several areas of their state had plummeted due to cold wave conditions during the last 24 hrs.
