Patel Engineering bags Rs 143.59 crore project

New Delhi, Jan 11 (UNI) Patel Engineering Ltd today said it has bagged a Rs 143.59 crore project from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Greater Mumbai (BMC) for construction of a tunnel.

The project involves construction of about 6.1 km long tunnel in the suburbs of Mumbai. The project will involve the use of full face rock tunnel boring machine, including construction of 50-80m deep shafts at these areas.

The project will use Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) compared to drill-and-blast technology for construction of this tunnel. Thereby drilling of up to 50 meters below ground level will be done without disturbing the building and traffic in the surrounding area, the company said in a statement.

In the past, BMC has used the technology for other water supply and sewage projects.

''We believe that urban infrastructure will gain momentum in future as huge investments are expected in various aspects of urban infrastructure including water supply and treatment systems, drainage systems and local transport infrastructure,'' company Whole Time Director Sonal Patel said.
