Members of the CITU stage Human Chain demonstration

Chennai, Jan 11 (UNI) Members of the CITU affiliated Madras Port and Dock Employees Union made a human chain here today, protesting against the Chennai Port Administration's move to privatise the proposed second container terminal.

In a press release General Secretary of the Union T Narendra Rao said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi would lay the foundation stone for the proposed second container terminal here on January 17.

Inviting Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to participate in the 125th year celebrations of the Chennai Port, Mr Narendra Rao appealed to him not to lay the foundation stone for the proposed second container terminal. It was going to be privatised and would affect the interest of the employees, he alleged.

Mr Rao appealed to Mr Karunanidhi to use his good offices with the UPA government at the Centre to see that the proposed move to privatise the second container terminal was given up.
