Medha Patkar to produce in court today
Kolkata, Jan 11 (UNI) Social activist Medha Patkar, who was formally arrested yesterday, will be produced in the court today.
Ms Patkar, was earlier kept in 'preventive custody' before being arrested formally as she attempted to visit Singur yesterday.
Sources said she has been on a fast since yesterday protesting against the West Bengal government's land acquisition policy.
Police contingent led by Superintendent of Police, North 24 Parganas had whisked away Ms Patkar and three of her associates as they moved out of the house in the Salt Lake area on the city's eastern fringe in a bid to go to Howrah station on way to Singur.
She was formally arrested after signing the memo.
Accusing the CPI(M) led government of violating democratic rights and breaking the law to suppress her movement, Ms Patkar said she would fight "to the end" against acquisition of farm land.
