Major fire at factory

Kochi, Jan 11 (UNI) A major fire broke out at a factory causing damage to property near here.

According to a fire services official, the fire broke out in Merchem Limited, a rubber processing company, at around 1750 hrs and was doused after one hour.

The factory's roof and cables were gutted. Gas leak was supposed to have caused the fire, the official said.

However, no human casualties were reported.As many as eight firetenders were pressed into service to extinguish the blaze.

The extent of property damage is yet to be ascertained.
