KSP against compulsory introduction of English in primary schools

Bangalore, Jan 11 (UNI) The Kannada Sahitya Parishad today demanded that the Karnataka Government withdraw its order, making it mandatory to teach English as a subject in Kannada medium primary schools, and set up an expert committee to show its commitment and will power to protect the local language.

KSP President Chandrashekhar Patil, in a letter to Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, which was released to the media here, said the committee could be set up with experts from the fields of education, language and psychology. The Government should implement the report submitted by the committee with regard to compulsory implementation of English.

He said the recently held All India Kannada conference in Shimoga had also adopted a resolution, demanding withdrawal of introduction of English at the primary school level.
