HC summons list of expelled LU students

Lucknow, Jan 11 (UNI) Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court today directed the Lucknow University (LU) to produce the list of expelled varsity students on January 19.

Besides, the SSP Lucknow has also been asked to produce the criminal record of these students in the Court.

The order was passed by Justices Pradeep Kant and Ajay Kumar Singh on a writ petition filed by a local lawyer Jayant Singh Tomar.

The HC said it was not necessary that each and every expelled student filed a writ in the court.

The bench observed that gathering from the newspaper items, it expects the SSP to prepare a comprehensive report to apprise the court of the whole matter.

On January 8, the HC had directed the LU to open the varsity for academic activities from January 11. Besides, the allocation of hostel to students is also to be completed by January 18.

On December 8 last year, LU Vice Chancellor R P Singh had ordered the varsity's indefinite closure and purging of hostels.
