Govt cheating farmers: TDP
Hyderabad, Jan 11 (UNI) Alleging that the Congress government was cheating the farmers in the name of implementing free power scheme, the main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today said that it would provide free power to farmers if voted to power in the next elections.
Talking to newspersons here, TDP leaders K Subbarayudu and M Narasimhalu said the previous TDP government had provided a subsidy of over Rs 3000 crore to TRANSCO for supplying nine hours of power to farmers at a nominal rate.
They claimed that the government was saving about Rs 500 crore by reducing power supply from nine hours to seven hours.
''The government is cheating the farmers on the pretext of providing free power,'' they alleged.
