CSB opens cell for silk product design, devt, diversification

Bangalore, Jan 11 (UNI) The Central Silk Board (CSB) has opened a separate cell in the city called P3D for product design, development and diversification to bring together all streams of post-cocoon activities of all the CSB institutes.

A CSB statement here said today that the cell, with adequate infrastructure, would encourage silk product design, development and diversification with a strategy to empower the silk industry and enhance the market share of silk fabrics in domestic and international trade, besides making available a wide choice of silk products across all segments of the society.

The statement said the objectives of the cell were new products development, quality upgradation, investement generation, technology absorption and employment generation. The activity envisaged revival of traditional products, developement and diversification of products, market information and support to entrepreneur and exporters both in the areas of mulberry and non-mulberry silks.

P3D cell would also focus on coordinated effort and involvement of Government institutions, agencies, representatives of different stake holders of the sericulture industry and designers for development of new and diversified silk products.

The cell would also provide facilities for students, researchers, weavers, traders, fashion designers and textile technologists to work in the areas of their interests, the statement said.
