Cow protection laws to be made more stringent

Bhopal, Jan 11 (UNI) Laws for the protection of cow family will be made more stringent in Madhya Pradesh to check cow slaughter and illegal transportation of cows.

It was proposed to amend the existing laws in this regard and the proposed amendments were discussed at a high-level meeting presided over by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here yesterday. The draft bill will be presented before the cabinet soon for approval, official sources said.

The proposed amendment include seizure of vehicle used for illegal transportation of bovines of cow family and punishment to driver, cleaner and vehicle owner.

Stating that incidents like cow slaughter may be engineered to cause communal disturbance, he directed the police to maintain extra vigil. In every district, a police officer would be nominated to ensure immediate action on receipt of information about cow slaughter.

The Chief Minister said financial assistance would be provided to Goshalas to maintain cows seized while in illegal transit.
