Centre to review Asom security situation tomorrow

New Delhi, Jan 11 (UNI) The Centre has convened a high-level meeting here tomorrow to review the security situation in Asom where the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) unleashed violence since the last week end, killing about 70 people.

Home Ministry sources said the meeting would discuss, among others, issues like deployment of available forces, measures taken for protection of residents of the state and steps taken to augment the strength of security forces.

Since the National Games is scheduled to be held in Guwahati next month, the meeting would also discuss the security arrangements for the week-long sports event.

Home Secretary V K Duggal will chair the meeting.

Asom Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police will be among those who will attend the meeting at the North Block.

The Railway Board Chairman, DGMO, Directors General of RPF, CRPF, BSF and CISF, a representative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Secretary General of the Indian Olympic Association would also attend the meeting.
