BKU extends support to SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab polls
Moga, Jan 11 (UNI) At a time when farmers all over Punjab are agitating against the government move to acquire their land for industrial purposes, the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU-Lakhowal) has decided to extend full support to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)-BJP alliance for the February 13 elections.
The BKU will be campaigning for the SAD-BJP alliance, the organisation president Ajmer Singh Lakhowal President and general secretary Manjit Singh Kadian said at a press conference here today.
The two leaders criticised the ruling Congress and claimed that it had failed to fulfill its promises made to the agricultural community. In this context, they referred to the waiving of the agricultural loans and non-payment of the bonus of paddy purchased by the government in the last season.
They also lashed out at the state government's reported move to setup Special Economic Zones (SEZs) on fertile agriculture land.
