BJP demands probe into missing children cases in TN
Chennai, Jan 11: Expressing shock over reports that 189 children had been reported missing in the city and suburbs in recent months, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu today demanded a detailed probe into the matter.
''The Government should order an inquiry whether the children have been kidnapped in connection with organ trade or for sexual exploitation,'' BJP State President L Ganesan told reporters here.
The reported missing of children in Chennai city had come as a rude shock in the wake of Noida killings, he said.
Referring to mushrooming of NGOs which were receiving funds from abroad, he said the authorities should also investigate whether the NGOs had given children for adoption in the last one year.
Stating that most of the NGOs were being run by minorites, Mr Ganesan said the government should deal with them strictly in the interest of public.
On Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's controversial remarks about statues in temples, Mr Ganesan said he should desist from making statements that would hurt the sentiments of certain sections of people.
''When there are several divine idols and statues in temples, I don't understand why he is disturbed by certain statues. He could have avoided making such remarks,'' he said.
Welcoming the Chief Minister's appeal to Tamils to celebrate 'Pongal' in a grand manner, Mr Ganesan said people belonging to all faiths should come forward to celebrate the 'thanks-giving' festival.
