Zila panchayat member shot dead

Bahraich, Jan 10 (UNI) Unidentified assailants shot dead the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) zila panchayat member here late last night, police today said.

Zila panchayat member Ram Phoolan Verma was attacked inside his residence in Ram Dalla Purva village under Khairighat police station area.

The miscreants also set on fire his house, in which two of his supporters received burn injuries and were rushed to a hospital.

Enmity is said to be the reason behind the crime.

A manhunt has been launched to nab the accused, police said.
