Hardwar, Jan 10 (UNI) AICC General Secretary Mukul Wasnik said women and youth will get due share in party tickets for the assembly polls scheduled to be held in February this year.

Mr Wasnik, one of the three central observers appointed by the AICC to supervise the coming assembly elections in the state, was talking to mediapersons after meeting all the aspirants for party tickets for assembly segments in the district.

The chairperson of the State Women Commission Dr Santosh Chauhan and the chairman of the state OBC Commission, Kunwar Pranav Singh, are among the 200 aspirants for the Congress tickets in the district.

In the last assembly elections, the Congress could not even open its account in any of the nine assembly constituencies of the district.

Mr Wasnik said this time the names of the party candidates would be declared well in time to give them sufficient time for poll preparations.

He also indicated only local candidates with good image and winning prospects would be fielded in the poll fray. Due to tremendous enthusiasm among the voters generated by excellent performance of the N D Tiwari led govt, the Congress would definitely succeed in retaining power in the state,'' he said.

A women delegation, led by the chairperson of the State Women Commission, Dr Santosh Chauhan demanded that 33 per cent of the tickets be reserved for women candidates. "The party should come forward to put an example for other parties to emulate", Dr. Chauhan said.
