Two killed, 20 hurt as vehicles ram into each other in dense fog
Kurukshetra, Jan 10 (UNI) At least two people were killed on the spot and 20 others injured, three of them seriously, when nearly 30 vehicles rammed into each other in a dense fog near Sanwla village on the GT Road between Karnal and Ambala, about 10 kms from here, this morning.
The injured were admitted to the civil hospital here and many of them discharged after the first aid. The seriously injured were taken to the AIIMS, New Delhi, in precarious condition on the request of their relatives.
The pile-up accident occured due to poor visibility caused by thick fog when a truck applied sudden brakes to avoid careening into a vehicle on the GT Road and was hit by following motorcycle and vehicles which crashed against each other. The motorcyle rider sustained injuries in the accident.
One of the occupants of a car, which was going to Kapurthala in Punjab, died on the spot.
A truck and a bus also collided at the same place, resulting in the death of the driver of a Punjab Roadways bus. The deceased were being identified.
Eyewitnesses said that when some students of a medical college of Ambala stopped their bus to take the injured to Kurukshetra hospital from the opposite road, a car hit them, injuring two students. As this car suddenly applied brakes, some following vehicles collided with each other in the process.
