Singur cannot be compared with Pithampur: BJP

Bhopal, Jan 10 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party today said that acquisition of land for setting up a special economic zone at Singur in West Bengal should not be compared with an auto-testing project at Pithampur in Madhya Pradesh as the latter is a government project.

''The BJP stand is that fertile irrigated land should not be acquired for private activity,'' BJP Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters here.

''The Communist Party of India(Marxist) stands exposed by its duplicity and double standards in acquiring fertile land for a private project at Singur,'' he said, adding that the Pithampur project is not a SEZ but a public sector undertaking.

''The state government will ensure that proper compensation is paid for the land acquired and the displaced are properly rehabilitated,'' Mr Naidu said while referring to a protest against acquisition of farm land for the auto-testing project.
