Reconvening assembly session unconstitutional: Cong

Lucknow, Jan 10 (UNI) Congress today slammed the Mulayam Singh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh for reconvening the assembly session, despite it being prorogued by Governor T V Rajeswar.

''The move of the Samajwadi Party government is a clear and intentional violation of the Constitution. If the assembly is at all called, it would just be a sitting of a few MLAs,'' claimed Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Pramod Tiwari.

He maintained the assembly can only be summoned by the Governor on the request of the state cabinet.

''The session, the first in the new year, shall start with an address by the Governor of the state legislature,'' he pointed out quoting the constitution.
