Raman welcomes SC order on tainted MPs
Raipur, Jan 10 (UNI) Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh today welcomed the Supreme Court verdict holding that the Parliament has the power to expel a sitting member for misconduct as also for acts which lower its dignity.
Talking to newsmen here, he said right from the beginning the BJP had favoured action against the elected representatives involved in the cash for query scandal and had also supported the resolution for their expulsion.
Dr Singh's response to the SC verdict came as Mr Pradeep Gandhi, who was among those expelled from the Lok Sabha, was representing Rajnandgaon constituency in the state.
''BJP is gearing up to contest the upcoming by-election in Rajnandgaon to retain the seat for the party'', he said. He, however, parried a question about the possibility of BJP re-nominating Mr Gandhi for the seat saying that 'It is upto the party to decide who should be the candidate''.
