Power theft to be discussed in Cabinet soon: Shinde

Bhopal, Jan 10 (UNI) Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde today said a proposal related to curbing power theft would soon be placed during the meeting of central cabinet.

''The proposal will discuss legal provisions to be taken against consumers indulging in power theft. Later, a discussion would be held with the states' chief ministers for its implementation,'' Mr Shinde told reporters here.

He said the Centre had taken a serious view of power theft and had directed the chief ministers to take necessary steps. Under this, some states had taken steps and power theft was reduced by one per cent.

Pointing out that it was the responsibility of the state governments to ensure availability of power, Mr Shinde said the centre provided power without discrimination to power-starved states.

He said in view of power crisis in states, the Centre had decided to provide loans from the Power Corporation to states producing power at their full capacity.
