No extremists have intruded into city: Police Commissioner

Chennai, Jan 9 (UNI) City Police Commissioner Letika Saran today denied reports that certain extremists were moving in and around the city.

Talking to newspersons here, Ms Saran said as per intelligence agencies' alert, after the recent arrest of Imran alias Bilal, a suspected militant from Bangalore, the city police had conducted a thorough search in and around the city to ascertain whether any associate of the arrested militant was hiding here.

She said police had intensified vehicle checks, monitoring of persons arriving from other states, private lodging houses, railway stations, bus terminals and crowded shopping malls.

She also sought cooperation from the public in this regard and appealed to the public to inform the police control room if they found any suspicious persons in their locality.
