No cracks in party asserts Vaiko

Chennai, Jan 10 (UNI) Marumalarchi DMK General Secretary Vaiko today reiterated that his party was intact and there was not ''even a minor crack'' following the rebellion by MPs L Ganesan and Gingee Ramachandran.

He said this while addressing a press conference here after the party's 16th General Council meeting in which Mr Ganesan and Mr Ramachandran were stripped of their post of Presidium Chairman and Deputy General Secretary, respectively.

Mr Vaiko claimed that the General Council meeting was a great success.

He said out of 1,416 General Council members, 1,303 had attended the meeting. Eighteen others expressed their inability to attend due to some unavoidable circumstances and ill- health and sent letters affirming faith in the party and peposing support in the decisions taken at the meeting.

Some others had telephonically informed their inability, he added.

He said six General Council members who had attended the so called General Council convened by the rebel leaders at Salem on December 29, were not allowed to attend the meeting. However, they were told that the party high command would consider their plea to allow them to attend the meetings in future, he added.

He said the party had not extended invitations to the special invitees and only the elected and nominated General Council members were invited for today's meeting, he added.
