Mukhtar Ansari summoned in Cong leader murder case
Varanasi, Jan 10 (UNI) Controversial independent MLA Mukhtar Ansari and his aide Bhim Singh have been summoned by a local court on January 22 for the 1991 Congress leader Avdhesh Rai murder case.
Issuing the summon, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) P N Srivastava yesterday directed Police Superintendent (Ghazipur) and Ghazipur District Jail Superintendent to produce both Mukhtar and Bhim in the court on January 22.
Both the accused are presently lodged in the Ghazipur district jail.
The CJM also issued non-bailable warrants (NBWs) against Kamlesh Singh and Rakesh Naik -- two other accused in the murder case, besides seeking from authorities the death certificate of the fifth accused and former Samajwadi Party MLA Abdul Kalam.
The Congress leader and brother of sitting BJP MLA Ajay Rai was shot dead in broad daylight on August 3, 1991 outside his house near Chetganj police station in the city.
