MPP readying for assembly elections, political heavy weights join

Imphal, Jan 10(UNI) The Manipur People's Party(MPP), one of the oldest regional parties in the state, has been gearing up for the Assembly elections scheduled in February.

President of MPP Dr L Chandramani said entry of former Chief Minister RK Dorendro and former Union Minister T H Chaoba would strengthen the party. Mr Chaoba had joined the party on Monday and Mr Dorendra had officially joined the party yesterday.

Mr Dorendra said he had started his political career in 1974 by winning elections as MPP candidate.

Mr Dorendra also mentioned that he had not applied for the Congress ticket as reported in a section of the media.

Meanwhile, Manipur University former Vice-Chancellor Dr N Bijoy tendered his resigned from the Congress party. He said he submitted the resignation letter to the party yesterday.

He said about 101 Congress members also resigned with him.

The formal announcement of candidates by politics parties were expected soon in the state .
