MPP readying for assembly elections
Imphal, Jan 10 (UNI) The Manipur People's Party(MPP), one of the oldest regional parties in the state, is gearing up for the Assembly elections scheduled in February.
President of MPP Dr L Chandramani said entry of former Chief Minister RK Dorendro and former Union Minister T H Chaoba would strengthen the party. Mr Chaoba had joined the party on Monday and Mr Dorendra officially joined the party yesterday.
Mr Dorendra said he started his political career in 1974 by winning the election as MPP candidate. He denied that he had applied for Congress ticket as reported in a section of the media.
Manipur University former Vice-Chancellor Dr N Bijoy tendered his resignation from the Congress party. He said he had submitted the resignation letter to the party yesterday.
He added that about 101 other Congress members had resigned along with him.
The formal announcement of candidates by the political parties were expected soon in the state.
