Monitoring Committee helps DDA, MCD to retireve Rs 75,000 crore land

New Delhi, Jan 10 (UNI) The Delhi High Court Monitoring Committee today submitted before the High Court that on the direction of the Committee the authorities could retrieve Rs 75,000 crore worth of 75,000 acres of public land in the Capital from the land mafia and illegal encroachers.

Submitting its report before the bench of Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Rekha Sharma, the Committee headed by retired IPS officers R S Gupta and B L Vhora said this was a miniscule amount of land and many more acres of land was under the illegal occupation of the land mafia and encroachers.

Within six months the monitoring committee could regain the land worth double the budget of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), said Mr Gupta, the former Delhi Police Commissioner.

''The MCD and Delhi Development Authority(DDA), the land owning agency, are therefore, richer by thousands crores of rupees, which they did not acheive on their own but for the directions of the High Court and efforts of the Court Commissioners,'' said the report.

Refuting the reports in a section of the press that the government was spending a huge amount on the monitoring committee and court commissioners, the Commiittee said the stupendous task of regaining the land could not have been possible but for the efforts of the Court Commissioners.

''There is an urgent need for fencing and protecting all these vacated land by the MCD and DDA which should be done and reports sent to the Monitoring Committee,'' said the report.

The Court adjourned the matter till January 17 and asked the authorities to take necessary steps to comply with the report of the Committee.

The Judges also granted time to the CBI to complete the probe and file the report.
