MDMK rebel leaders expelled from party

Chennai, Jan 10: The General Council of the Marumlarchi DMK, which met here under the leadership of Party general Secretary Vaiko, today expelled the party's former Presidium Chairman Mr L Ganesan (MP) and Deputy General Secretary Gingee Ramachandran (MP) for indulging in anti-party activities.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the meeting. The resolution also said the activities of Mr Ganesan and Mr Ramachandran also amounted to conspiracy and joining those who wanted to destroy the party.

Mr Vaiko removed the two from their party posts in his capacity as General Secretary.

The removal of Mr Ganesan and Mr Ramachdnran came in the wake of criticism by the former lieutenants of Mr Vaiko for forging an alliance with the AIADMK.

The two had also convened a rebel General Council meeting and removed Mr Vaiko as the General Secretary at Salem on December 29.

In an another resolution, it said the party would strive for the upliftment of Tamil Nadu and fullfill the dreams of late leader C N Annadurai. The resolution also said the party would make efforts to strengthen its ties with the AIADMK in order to make Tamil the official language, protect social justice, bring in an amendment to the Constitution to empower the states to determine the quantum of Reservation, support the cause of Tamil Eelam in neighbouring Sri Lanka, protect the rights of people of Tamil Nadu on issues like Mullaiperiyar, Cauveri river water dispute and mobilise the support of the people against the fascist DMK Government in Tamil Nadu.

The party, in its resolution, also claimed that DMK President M Karunanidhi was following 'dynastic politics'. It also criticised alleged misuse of official power by him and trying to establish his family's hegemony in politics, commercial and industrial sector and satellite television.
