India successfully launches PSLV-C7 from SHAR
Sriharikota, Jan 10: PSLV-C7, the tenth flight of the PolarSatellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), lifteed off from the Satish DhawanSpace Centre here at 0923 hrs, today.
The 44.4 metre tall, four-stage 295 tonne launch vehicle of theISRO, carried four payloads, including the first of its kind 550 KGSpace Capsule Recovery Experiment (SRE), a new mission to test re-entrytechnology and a forerunner to developing reusable vehicles like SpaceShuttle.
The main payload was the 680 kg advanced Indian Remote SensingSatellite CARTOSAT-2. Indonesia's 56 kg earth observation satelliteLAPAN-TUBSAT and Argentina's six kg nanosatellite PEHUENSAT-1 were theother payloads.
This was for the first time that India launched multiple payloads inone mission. It was an awesome sight as the giant 44.4 metre tall295-tonne four stage vehicle, roared into the skies, belching orangeflames and leaving behind a trail of smoke and a rumble that shook theearth.
A galaxy of scientists, led by ISRO Chief G Madhavan Nair, Projectdirectors of CARTOSAT-2 and SRE-1, were watching the course of theflight from the Mission Control Centre.
