IGI will open their gemological labs at Surat
Surat, Jan 10: The Antwerp-based International GemologicalInstitute (IGI) today unveiled plans to establish their own gemologicallaboratories in the diamond city.
The CEO of IGI, Mr Roland Lorie, who is here to attend apresentation on gems and the jewellery industry, told UNI that IGI hasplans to establish gemological laboratories in Surat in the next twoyears.
''Gemological labs need good staff. It will take at least one yearto train experts in testing and grading gemstones. Now there are nolabs in Surat, but we have plans to establish gemological labs inanother two years,'' he said.
The Managing Director of IGI India, Mr Tehmasp Printer pointed outthat 135 qualified gemologists of IGI, grade hundreds of gemstones inMumbai everyday.
''Leading jewellery brands like Damas, Asmi, Nakshatra, Adora etcrely on IGI for consumer confidence. We now have plans to expand ourmobile laboratories to service jewellery retailers across thecountry,'' he added.
