DIG-Jammu suspended

Jammu, Jan 10 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered the suspension of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Niaz Mehmood Mir, following allegations of irregularities against him, a senior official today said.

Inspector General of Police Jammu S P Vaid told UNI that DIG Mehmood, Jammu-Kathua range, had been placed under suspension with immediate effect after alleged irregularities arose in the recruitment of the Indian Reserve Police (IRP).

''The physical endurance test for selection of candidates from Jammu and Kathua districts is declared null and void,'' official sources said.

The Director General of Police will constitute the recruitment board afresh for the IRP, sources added.

Meanwhile, an inquiry into the matter has been initiated.
