Chemical residual found in imported vegetables from Asom
Aizawl, Jan 10: Mizoram government has admitted the report of excess chemical contents in the vegetables imported from southern Asom but assured that it is not fatal to humans.
Referring to a laboratory's report, Aizawl's Deputy Commissioner D C Vanengmawia said cabbage and cauliflower imported from Asom had residue of few pesticides and insecticides, which alone could not death after consumption.
The Mizoram authorities had stopped importing vegetables with the reports of death of five people after consuming cabbages and cauliflowers in Silchar in Asom early this week.
The authorities had stopped entry of many vehicles carrying vegetables at Vairengte check post along Mizoram-Asom border.
Mr Vanengmawia said as a result a huge amount of cabbages and cauliflowers, brought to the state, was sold at low cost in bordering areas during past two days.
