Centre gets UP govt request to transfer Nithari, Kavita case to CBI

New Delhi, Jan 10 (UNI) The Centre today received a notification from the Uttar Pradesh Government requesting it to handover probe in the Nithari killings and Kavita murder case to the Central Bureau of Investigation.

CBI Director Vijay Shankar held meetings with Home Secretary V K Duggal and Additional Secretary in the Department of Personnel and Training Brahma Dutta and other officials to discuss the request.

Sources said that the decision regarding transferring the cases would be take up soon and seperate notification would be issued in this regard. One notification would be regarding 19 cases of missing children in Nithari village of Noida and another regarding murder of Meerut University lecturer Kavita Chowdhry.

The Uttar Pradesh Government had made the request yesterday itself but it was not in proper format. So, on the Centre's direction the request was sent again this morning.

The cases would be given to the CBI in view of the serious nature of the crime and the inter-state ramification.
