BJP welcomes SC decision on expulsion of MPs

New Delhi, Jan 10 (UNI) Welcoming the Supreme Court's judgement in the cash-for-query scam upholding Parliament's power to expel sitting members, the BJP today said the party supported any measure to check corruption.

BJP Spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said the party was of the view that any attempt to check corruption should be supported and respected the apex court's decision even though unfortunately most of the expelled members belonged to the BJP.

''We are happy that the judicial decision has come much before the expiry of the term of Parliament.'' Mr Prasad said although there was no ban on the expelled members from contesting again, the BJP may not field them.

To a question, he said the Court's decision was as good as final although there was scope for the MPs to file a revision petition against the decision of the Constitutional Bench.
