BJP hails Supreme Court order on tainted MPs

Bhopal, Jan 10: The main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party today welcomed the Supreme Court ruling upholding Parliament's powers to expel MPs caught in a cash-for-query scam.

''The apex court order is supreme and all should abide by it.

The BJP has already taken action against erring MPs,'' party Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters here today.

Mr Naidu was in the Madhya Pradesh capital for informal consultation on setting up a training institute in memory of former BJP chief Kushabhau Thakre.

Sealing the fate of 11 MPs expelled following the scam, the Supreme Court today held that Parliament has the power to expel a sitting member for misconduct as also for acts that lowered its dignity.
