New Delhi, Jan 10 (UNI) Strongly condemning the attacks on migrants by ULFA in several districts of Asom, the BJP today demanded 'strong action' against militant groups having shelter in Bangladesh.

BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said ULFA is against India and its interests. He said the government should ask Bangladeshi authorities to act against anti-India militant groups taking shelter in that country. If required, India should resort to crossing the international border to destroy militant groups, he added.

Mr Prasad praised the people of Bihar who had displayed 'patience and mature behaviour' to the acts of ULFA's secessionist provocations. The Bihar government had sent its elected leaders to ease the situation. He however declined to comment on the statement of NDA Convenor George Fernandes absolving ULFA of any wrongdoing.

He said the nexus between ruling Congress and ULFA were all well known and it was at the party's behest that the Army had to allow 'safe passage' to ULFA's 28 battalion in September 2005 who had been surrounded by the Army at Dibru-Saikhowa in Upper Asom.

Had they been apprehended instead of being given 'safe passage', it would have weakened the morale of the militants, the BJP spokesman added.

The incoherent and adhoc policies of the UPA government during August-September 2006 had helped the militant organisation to regroup and strike at India.
