Baba Amrik Singh remanded to police custody

Patiala, Jan 10 (UNI) Judicial Magistrate Dr Rajneesh today sent Baba Amrik Singh to police remand for four days.

The Baba had surrendered in the local court on Monday following his appeal for anticipatory bail rejected by the Supreme Court on December 8 last.

Baba Amrik Singh performed Kar Sewa of much publicised gold palanquin that was taken to Pakistan last year, has been facing charges for embezzlement of eight kg gold while preparing the golden palanquin.

Baba Jagtar Singh, the head of Goindwal Sahib Dera was entrusted to prepare golden palanquin by DSGMC, which he handed over the job to Amrik Singh, an associate.

A case was registered under sections 420, 465, 468, 471, 477 and 120 B of IPC against Baba Amrik and nine others in Tripuri police station of Patiala.

Those named in the FIR are Baba Amrik Singh, Mukhtiar Singh, Harjeet Kaur, Amandeep Singh, Harmohinder Singh, Guriqbal Singh, Dharamjeet Singh and Hardeep Singh living in Patiala and adjoining towns.

The case was registered on the complaint of Baba Gurmeet Singh who is second in command to Baba Amrik Singh. Raids to arrest Baba, were conducted in different places in Punjab but police did not get success.

Police has already arrested six persons in this case, who were Haka Singh, Mukhtiar Singh, Harjit Kaur, Kamaljit Kaur, Harmohindr Singh, Harjinder Kaur nee Malika. Three persons Amandep Singh, Guriqbal Singh and Dhramjit Singh were still absconding.

As per complained lodged by Baba Gurmeet Singh, Baba Amrik Singh siphoned Kar Sewa funds to the tune of Rs 1.75 crore. As per FIR, Baba Amrik Singh purchased agriculture and commercial properties in the recent past, and have huge amount in bank accounts. Baba Gurmeet Singh complained to the police after Baba Jagtar Singh head of Goindwal Sahib Dera, developed difference with Baba Amrik Singh over misuse of Kar Sewa funds.
