Animation market in regional languages increasing: NASSCOM

Hyderabad, Jan 10 (UNI) National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) Chairman B Ramalinga Raju today said the special effects market was increasing in Hindi, regional languages and animated films in the country.

Inaugurating a two-day annual 'NASSCOM Animation and Gaming India- 2007' conference here, Mr Raju, who is also the Chairman of Satyam Computers said, "there is a gradual trend of increasing focus on domestic market and domestic demand in IT sector." "The introduction of special effects in Hindi and regional languages will provide an impetus to increasing levels of interest in animated movies in the domestic market", he added.

Stating that the Indian market had typically been 'export-led' and 70 per cent of the revenues came from IT exports, Mr Raju said, 'we need to focus on factors like external investment and specialised training.

The IT industry had the potential to offer significant opportunites to investors, companies and the government he said adding for accomplishing this the industry required human capital development and policy support from government.

NASSCOM President Kiran Karnik said it was the right time to increase the number of co-production ventures and grow maturity of animation studios in addition to enhancing creative skills and manpower availability.

The attractive domestic market opportunity would immensely contribute to the growth of IT industry, he added.
