UP: 4 labourers killed, dozens buried under debris

Allahabad, Jan 10: At least four labourers have been killed and dozens trapped under the debris of a multi-storey building under construction on Tashkant road in posh Civil Lines area here which collapsed this morning.

Over one hundred labourers were laying the base of the upper floor of the four-storey building since last night when suddenly it caved in this morning.

Fire brigade, police, Nagar Nigam and Allahabad Development Authority officers, along with their bulldozers, have reached the spot and started rescue work. Since the debris of the collapsed house was in thousands tonnes it was taking time to clear it.

The district administration has requisioned the services of the Army. Army jawans have reached along with their machines and are engaged in rescue work.

Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and police jawans have cordoned off the area. A large number of people have gathered on the spot, which is causing problem for the police.

District Magistrate Amrit Abhijat and S S P and other senior officers have already reached the spot.

According to local residents, the building under construction collapsed with loud sound this morning.

The labourers engaged in the construction work of other buildings were under panic and had stopped working.
