2 railwaymen suspended for Champaner train accident

Vadodara, Jan 10 (UNI) Railway authorities suspended two employees, including switchman M M Shumra and electric signal maintainer Prabhat Mansukh in connection with January five goods train accident at Champaner station.

Official sources here said action was taken against the two railway staff posted at Champaner station on the basis of the preliminary report of the 4-member high-level enquiry committee, set up to probe the mishap.

The committee headed by chief safety officer of Western Railway Brijesh Dixit, now camping in Vadodara, was expected to submit its final report on the cause of the accident to the Railway ministry in next 3-4 days, sources said.

Though there was no casualty, train services between Mumbai and Delhi were seriously affected for about 20 hours after Tughlakabad-bound Rajdhani special container goods train rammed into the stationary Gandhidham-Shalimar goods train from behind on a loop line at Champaner in the wee hours of January five.
